Battery Cover and Housing
DEFENSOR-Flex® Multilayer for battery cover housing builds a passive fire protection solution and functions as a barrier in case of thermal runaway and battery fires. It reduces the temperature between the Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) and the passenger cabin and helps to extend the rescue time for passengers.
Gas and Particle Filtration
A DEFENSOR-Flex® glass fiber mat around the battery modules functions as a filter and pressure-releasing layer in the event of thermal runaway. The multilayer construction reduces the release of highly toxic gases and hydrofluoric acid. Additionally, the temperature- and fire-protective material prevents flames and sparks from spreading.
Venting Shield
As an innovative solution for coordinated pressure release within the battery, thin, light woven and coated textiles and/or ceramifiable rubber can be placed as a seal on top of battery cells burst disks. It protects adjacent battery cells to help mitigating thermal runaway. In the first moment of thermal runaway, the burst disk gets destroyed and burns a hole in the venting shield which releases particles and gases from the cell, preventing pressure increase.
